Diamond Dressing Products

3M/General Industrial Diamond designs and manufactures a complete line of natural and synthetic diamond tools, rolls, and discs. These products are designed to true and dress all types and specifications of bonded abrasive and superabrasive wheels.

Single-Point Dressers, Form Dressers, Cluster and Blade Tools-We offer seven different qualities of natural diamonds alone, and are capable of producing all standard and special designs.

Impregranted, Grit, and Particle Dressers-We can produce all shapes and sizes in different bond hardnesses, diamond concentrations, and diamond grain sizes for trueing both conventional abrasive and CBN wheels.

Steps to Order Diamond Tools:

1.   Specify the diamond carat weight required.

2.   Specify the diamond quality

Blue dot - Extra select grade-specially selected octahedron or dodecahedron

diamonds of the finest quality, exhibiting sound internal structures and superb

external shape which permits four to five resettings. These are the finest

natural diamond wheel dressers available. These are the finest natural

      diamond wheel dressers available.

White dot - Standard fine grade-Selected octahedron of dodecahedron

diamonds of the fine quality. Internal structure is very sound, and shape is

particularly good, allowing an average of three resettings. Although this is our

"second" quality, it is superior to many manufactures' "first qualities.

Green dot - Commercial grade-sound industrial diamonds with good external

shape suitable for two resettings with proper use.

Red dot - General purpose grade-a medium grade industrial diamond

exhibiting reasonably sound internal structure, and capable of being reset

       one time when properly used.

Throwaway - Single use grade-a quality of diamond for a single use when

initial cost is the most important consideration, or where tools are generally

       treated roughly by semi-skilled labor.

Pisces - Single use grade-a single use quality of even lower cost than

throwaway, yet capable of consistent, successful wheel dressing.

VLP - Single use grade-lowest cost diamonds, round shape, suitable for

non-critical operations where a defined point is not needed.

3.   Specify any special shape or type of diamond (chiselpoint, conical point, etc.)

4.   Give a full description of the diamond tool shank:

       a.   For tools with a single diameter, specify both diameter and total length.

       b.   For tools with an enlarged or reduced head, specify the diameters and

lengths of both the head and tail sections.

       c.   Specify any milled flats, special steel "nose" angles, threaded areas, tapped

holes, etc. Drawings are usually preferred for such tools. The make and model

of machine frequently is all we need.

5.   If the tools is to be used to form convex (male) radii on a grinding wheel, as opposed to

simply a straight dress, please tell us. Radius dressing requires us to perform an

additional machining operation to locate the diamond point concentrically with the tool

diameter, so that a properly formed wheel radius results.
